A Change of Plans

Baruch was scheduled to speak at a congregation Friday night, but there was a last-minute cancellation. Therefore, our host John drove us to Seville, Spain for the day! We appreciate his wife, Reidun, and her generous sharing of John with us during this trip.

It is a 1 1/2 hour drive to Seville from Olhao, Portugal. We looked for Jewish history there and found that it has all virtually been wiped away! We spoke with one of the guides from the Centro de Interpretation Juderia de Sevilla who informed us that all the spots where there were various synagogues and mikve (ritual baths) have all been destroyed, changed into Catholic Churches, or in the case of the Jewish cemetery, made into a parking garage! The Jewish population has been persecuted and killed for centuries in Spain and today the population in the country is 30-50,000.

The earliest mention of Spain is found in Obadiah 1:20: “And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad (Spain), shall possess the cities of the south.” (KJV).

There were many beautiful buildings and narrow streets.

Having a break with our friend and host, John. We missed his wife, Reidun!

Today Baruch taught a seminar on First John chapter 2. He made the point that as a person who has been saved by the shed blood of Messiah Yeshua, one should realize that we should emphasize the spirit of the law, which is to Love the L-rd G-d with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to Love our neighbour as ourselves. This will be a powerful testimony to draw people to the cross! When we imitate Yeshua, we will walk as HE walked and behave as HE did while on earth.

A testimony which shows us as committed to the World and not committed to the Kingdom is not a sign of a victorious life! In I John 2:16 we see the phrase “pride of life.” This has to do with a arrogant display of one’s life which is of no lasting significance. What are we chasing after? Wealth, honor, prestige? Or are we pursuing righteousness? Remember: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33.

    1. Hello Robert! If Baruch said that, it was certainly a slip of the tongue! The book of John was written by the disciple John. Praying for you a successful treatment. Very glad you are finding Baruch’s teaching useful. Send me an update as you continue in your treatment! Blessings!
