The study at our study center this past motzei Shabbat focused on the end of Luke chapter 6 and the beginning of Luke chapter 7. Baruch brought out an interesting point in the story of the centurion that I believe is often skipped over. The elders came to Yeshua in verse 4, telling Him that He should go to heal the centurion’s servant because the centurion “loves our nation, and he has built us a synagogue.”
Thousands of believers visit the ancient synagogue in Capernaum (Kfar Nachum) each year. You can see the ruins of the latest synagogue and then the foundation of the earlier one. That foundation is the one which that centurion of great faith built for the Jewish people.
What is so striking is that we know two things about that Gentile Centurion: 1) he loved the Jewish people and built them a synagogue, and 2) he had great faith. Therefore, he in his great faith blessed Israel.
We see more and more believers turning away from Israel and the Jewish people as our time of difficulty draws nearer. Please pray for Israel and the Jewish people to turn to the L-rd and for protection.
