Ducks in Central Park in February.
While in the States, I had at least four different conversations with people about food, the world’s food supply, healthy eating, exercise, etc. I have been thinking about it since I got back and then some ideas started to formulate in my mind.
Why are believers against smoking? (We should be!) Isn’t one of the reasons because our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit? (I Corinthians 16:19-20) We were bought with a price and we are to therefore honor G-d with our bodies.
We should not expose our bodies carelessly to things which are bad for it, nor succumb to any form of lust of the flesh. To sin against our bodies is a very serious offense.
Have we allowed food to take too high of a priority in our lives? In Judaism, we eat in order to bless G-d. How? We eat and then pray afterward, thanking Him for His provision for us. We are not like the animals. We have a higher calling.
Perhaps we need to reevaluate what we are eating and how much exercise we are getting. Are we taking the best care of this body we have been given? This will help us to be in the best condition possible to do the work which the L-rd has entrusted to us.
In light of all this, we must also remember, “For bodily exercise profits little, but godliness is profitable unto all things…” 1 Timothy 4:8
Everything in a proper balance, led by the Holy Spirit, for He will show us all things pertaining to this world and the Kingdom.
