Pesach–Prep Time!

Preparation for Pesach doesn’t have to be overwhelming.  I’m going to share with you how I prepare.  Of course that doesn’t mean it is the best way, but it is at least one option for you to try.

First of all, I begin early.  A few weeks before the holiday begins (read: now!) I start with the bedrooms.  I am fortunate enough that I am through with having to do all the bedrooms–our kids can do their own.  Plus one has flown the nest 🙂

Pesach cleaning should not be confused with Spring cleaning!  The intent of Spring cleaning is to clean the house thoroughly.  The intent of Pesach cleaning is to rid the home of all chametz (leaven).  Leaven signifies corruption, sin.  This is a physical representation of what we are also to do Spiritually in our lives.

It is really impossible to rid the kitchen of chametz too early.  Therefore, I do wait until a couple of days before the holiday to do the oven and refrigerator.

One tip I do want to make is that for those of you who do live in an area where grocery stores carry some kosher for Pesach items, buy them as soon as they arrive at the store.  Next week I will set up a table in our home (probably in the spare bedroom) and start placing all of the kosher for Pesach items there.  Of course in Israel we are blessed with many prepared food items, such as cakes, brownies, cookies, etc.  I stock up on them early.

In my next post, I plan to go over the forbidden grains and the definition of kitniot!
