Today is Yom Yerushalayim! This is an Israeli national holiday commemorating the reunification of Jerusalem and the establishment of Israeli control over the Old City in the aftermath of the June 1967 Six-Day War. Unfortunately, many communities are now receiving numerous rockets from Gaza and the Arabs in and around Jerusalem are attacking civilians. Please keep Israel in your prayers.
This is a message I just received from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem:
“Media reports indicate possible rocket fire in Gaza and southern and central Israel, including Jerusalem. The Embassy strongly encourages U.S. citizens to remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase security awareness, as security incidents, including rocket fire, often take place without warning. In the event of mortar or rocket fire, a red alert siren may be activated.”
It goes on to state that people should seek shelter immediately.
This is a tense time for Israel and her citizens. We appreciate your prayers for the citizens as well as the Israeli police and military. The conflict is expected to continue for at least a few more days. Israel is promising a harsh response to the rocket fire coming from Hamas in Gaza.
